Government needs to be more transparent with its vaccine programme to avoid a repeat with the PPE looting, writes the author.

Ralph Mathekga writes that the government is not known for transparency. So, even if it ensures the Covid-19 vaccine programme is done via a centralised system, there might still be corruption.

President Cyril Ramaphosa and his team have yielded to public pressure and decided to centralise procurement relating to the purchase and rollout of Covid-19 vaccinations in South Africa.

This comes after funding meant for personal protective equipment (PPE) was looted last year in what appears to be the biggest case of looting yet, involving companies and politicians.
